Composition
St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
St John’s Wort is an herbaceous plant native to Europe and central Asia. It grows abundantly by the side of paths and in dry pastures and clearings. The leaves have scattered translucent dots of glandular tissue, which give them a perforated appearance (related to the plant’s name in old French, “pertuis,” meaning narrow passageways or holes), while the edges of the leaves and flowers are covered with little black dots.
